Hashkama: Look Up

“But when these things begin to come to pass, look up, and lift up your heads; because your redemption draweth nigh” (Luke 21:28)

A dear friend messaged me pointing out that the prospects for the future are not good.  “Then there’s nuclear looming too.  Iran, Russia… the enemy of our souls is playing his final hand.”  There are those who have eyes to see; there are those that are blind; then there are the blind whose eyes will be opened.  Like my friend, there are those that see and understand; and as is reportedly happening in America where most parents of young children don’t believe in Jesus for Salvation, there are those that neither see nor understand.  These children might well be the final generation of humans before Jesus returns.  According to George Barna, Millennial mums and dads are not passing on a biblical worldview to their children – “They wilfully forget…” (2 Peter 3:5).  “People’s hearts have become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes” (Matthew 13:15).  What begins in America often finds its way around the rest of the world.  Then we have those whose eyes will be opened.  They were blind, but they will be so no longer.  While the world goes into great darkness there are those who did not see and did not understand, but who will come to see the light (Zechariah 12:10; John 19:37) and to understand.  Those who are first will be last.  Zechariah 12 promised salvation to the Jew first (Zechariah 12:7), and the destruction of their enemies (Zechariah 12:2, 9).  The nation that rejected their Messiah because they were blind in Part (Romans Ch’s 9-11), will see and will believe.

The enemy of souls works in diverse ways to the destruction of humankind.  False doctrine is planted in the Church by the enemy.  People may have been lulled into a false sense of security as Noah worked away day in and day out building the Ark.  His labour of love lasted about one-hundred years.  People had more than enough time to repent, but they were at the very least apathetic.  Today, people are lulled into a false sense of security by the false doctrine that believers will be raptured before the time of big trouble.  Noah wasn’t raptured out of the big trouble of his day; he sailed through it.  We will come up against apathy in the last days – “Where is the promise of His coming?  For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation” (2 Peter 3:4).  Jude 1:18 speaks to us of the prevailing attitude before Jesus returns – “How they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts.”

Cancel Culture and it’s Cousins

Democracy is being undermined from many different sources.  In the past scientists and those in the media that spoke out against global warming, lost their jobs and their reputation.  That attitude has expanded.  You are likely to find yourself unemployed if you offer a different opinion on Islam, BLM, racism, anti-racism, LGBT++, climate change, Covid vaccinations, Cancel Culture, and all the sexual and gender deviations and perversions that are on the table today.  We have culture wars and Identity Politics.  You will get the poke if you’re not Woke.  A case in point is that of the black trainee vicar, Calvin Robertson, who was blocked from becoming a priest in the Church of England.[i]  The reason is because he refutes the Woke Church’s view that Britain is institutionally racist.  The Church of England’s stance, if it continues, is going to lead to big trouble and to persecution of true believers in Jesus.  This will likely lead to a constitutional change and clerics of false religions sitting in the House of Lords; and since the King in Waiting wants to be the Defender of Faiths, they will have his support and blessing.  The Anglican Church is in rebellion against the teachings of God, and is in danger of being cast aside: “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He also has rejected you” (1 Samuel 15:23).  Continuing with our (incomplete) list, the climate change contingent is similar to the Jehovah’s Witnesses who have prophesied time and again when the world will end.  They are always wrong, and so are the climate change brigade.  In 1982 the UN was telling the world that it had only a decade to solve global warming or face the consequences.  Nature had its way and there has been no global warming since.  In 1989, Noel Brown, a senior UN environmental official, claimed that: …entire nations could be wiped off the face of the earth by rising sea levels if global warming is not reversed by the year 2000.  However, nations have appeared rather than disappeared since 1989 (e.g. South Sudan).  The prediction was wrong in 1989, it was wrong in 2000, and it is still wrong in 2022.  Rahendra Pachauri, former head of UN’s IPPC said in 2007, “If there’s no action before 2012, that’s too late.  What we do in the next two or three years will determine our future.  This is the defining moment.”  In truth, the defining moment keeps changing.  Why?  Because like the Watchtower Society, it’s a scam!  But they continue with the scam.  The thing that concerns me is Christians have fallen for it.  ‘We can save the world by not eating meat.’  ‘We can save the world by not heating out homes.’  We will save the world by turning to the turbines of green energy.  Tell that to Jesus!  “Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look at the earth below; for the heavens will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment, and its people will die like gnats. But My salvation will last forever, and My righteousness will never fail” (Isaiah 51:6; Psalm 102:6; Hebrews 1:10-12).   According to a recent paper published by the Global Warming Policy Foundation, UK weather trends have changed very little in recent decades.  In fact, if anything, the weather has become less extreme.  While very cold winters are now rare, heatwaves have not increased.  There have been few droughts in recent decades, but we are not seeing more wet years, wet months, or wet days.  That is all in the paper.[ii]  Will the media report it?  Probably not.  Also noted in the paper is that storms are not an increasing problem, and extreme winds have been on the decline for 30 years.  The GWPF invited the Royal Society and the Met Office to review and submit a response to this paper, to be published as an addendum to it.  The invitation was not taken up.  The insanity continues as Satan’s little soldiers and useful idiots drive on.  Australia’s new leader, Anthony Albanese said that Australia could become a renewable energy superpower.  He has vowed to take the country in a new direction, with a big shift in climate policy.  I have focused in on global warming here, but there is just as much tosh in the other subjects, i.e. leading politicians not able to say whether or not women have a penis.  And as Ann Widecombe said on GBNEWS, that if Islamic terrorism and extremism is not part of Islam, why don’t they teach that in the mosques?[iii]  Why don’t the moderate Imams teach that terrorism is not the will of Allah?  One or two have tried, and look what happened to them.  One received death threats after taking on the fanatics and testified about extremism in his mosque.  He clashed with the family of Saman Abedi and was forced into hiding.  Imam Mohammed El-Saeiti left Manchester after multiple threats to his life.  What hope for future generations…if the world continues long enough?  The only hope there has ever been – Jesus!  Another moderate Imam, this time in Paris, was forced into hiding after receiving a deluge of death threats for advocating religious tolerance and denouncing Islamist terrorism in France.  Despite being placed under police protection with six armed officers accompanying him at all times, Hassen Chalghoumi, 48, says he has had to put his house in the Paris suburbs up for sale and to move his wife and five children to a Gulf state.  Islam is a great threat to the world; you can tag “extremism” onto it if you want to, but where is the root of so-called extremism found?  Of course, there are peaceful Muslims.  But if they believe extremism doesn’t come from Islam then they should stand up and denounce it; and they should denounce it in the mosques.  Burying our heads in the sand now will mean that heads will roll in the future.  Let the reader understand.

Vladimir Putin has his own version of cancel culture – he intends to cancel Britain with his nuclear weapons.  While some laugh others take him more seriously.  As I mentioned before, some Christian commentators see the hand of God in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.  They suggest that God is using an evil regime to bring judgement against another evil nation, namely Ukraine.  Suppose that is true, and if it is, why should God stop with Ukraine?  Is Great Britain such a Godly place?  The American Evangelist Billy Graham said, “Some years ago, my wife, Ruth, was reading the draft of a book I was writing. When she finished a section describing the terrible downward spiral of our nation’s moral standards and the idolatry of worshiping false gods such as technology and sex, she startled me by exclaiming, ‘If God doesn’t punish America, He’ll have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah.’[iv]  If things were bad then, they are much worse now.  What if God is intending to use Russian aggressing to bring judgement on Great Britain?  It is a possibility is it not?  President Putin’s declared intent is to attack Britain with precision guided nuclear missiles in August of this year.  Who cares?  Who is calling on the name of the Lord?  Who is repenting?  Is there even a church anywhere that has sought the Lord’s mind on this matter?  It might not be the end of the world, but it could be the end of Britain.  On the other hand, it could be bluff.  God knows, but have we bothered to enquire of Him?

Another ending of Britain is that advocated by Peter Hitchens of the Daily Mail.  He suggests that instead of pandering to those countries that want to break-away from the union, England itself should become a sovereign nation.  He believes that the political party that puts an English secession from the UK in its general election manifesto will win with a large majority.[v]  The world is changing and is being made ready for the return of Jesus. Another ending for parts of this world is coming from outer space.  It is taking its time in reaching earth, again giving people time to repent and to believe on Jesus, but will they.  A giant asteroid is about to pass earth even as I write.  Yet another danger which is said to be on the earth’s trajectory is to arrive in 2031.  According to NASA, the solar system’s largest comet is heading towards earth at lightning speed.  Scientists fear that if the comet deviates even slightly from its path, it could spell the end of the Earth and all humanity.  It won’t do that because it is not foretold in Scripture, but it could cause immense damage and loss of life.  It took time for Noah to build the Ark and it is going to take time for the comet to arrive.  Will people react as they did in the days of Noah?  The comet, hit or miss, should keep us mindful that life as we know it is coming to an end, and that Jesus is coming and will make all things new (Revelation 21:5).

As it was in the days of Noah, so will it be at the coming of the Son of Man… (Matthew 24:37-38; Luke 17:27-30).

Blessings and shalom
